Embrace the Wilderness

Isaiah 40:3–5  A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed...”

The voice isn’t calling for us to build in the oasis.
The voice isn’t calling us to build a path on a warm summer beach.
The voice is calling us to build a highway for the Lord in the desert!
The wilderness! The dry places! That place where the wild things are!

Some complain about their desert experiences and cry out for God to take them out of the wilderness. They don’t realize that they’ve been positioned by the hand of the Holy Spirit in order to carry out the instructions of God. You might just be right where you have been called to be! Embrace the wilderness! Listen for the voice:

“The Master of the house is returning! Prepare the way! Make straight the paths! Roll out the red carpet! What are you waiting for? Don’t you know Who you are waiting on? He’s coming and when He comes we will all share in the abundance of His inheritance! He is restoring the awe of God upon the earth again!”

Acts 15:30–32 So when they were sent off, they went down to Antioch, and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. And when they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement. And Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with many words.

I have been spending considerable time contemplating the role of...
