As we were approaching the month of September I found myself spending consider time in John 13:1-20.  This passage ends with Jesus saying, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.” To read this out of context is to miss the significance of what happened here.

In this passage we observe a momentus occasion: mid-meal Jesus stands up and removes his outer garment. In this moment we see a great contrast between what Jesus knew and what He did. He knew His days on the earth were coming to an end. He knew Judas was the one who would betray Him. In spite of what He knew, this is what He did. He further shed his identity by laying aside his outer garment and tying on a towel, as one who serves. He washed the feet of all, even the one who would betray Him. He became the example of how to serve, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

Jesus destiny is fulfilled in being a sovereign king at the right hand of the Father. But the path to his destiny required him to lay aside Himself in order to be the gateway for others to begin a new life; to begin a journey into a new culture; to live a new life worth living!.

If you are in Christ, you are now the gateway to someone else's new beginning! But to be the catalyst by which someone else can begin, you will be challenged to lay yourself down and lay aside your own ideas, ideals and agendas for the moment so someone else can take center stage before the throne of grace! Setting aside the importance of your own idea or identity for a moment in order to serve others is what empowers you to walk in the image of Jesus, and empowers others to do likewise.

This is our call. This is the honor to which we have been entrusted: to look someone in the eye, take them by the hand and prophesy to their spirit man while saying, "It is time to begin!" It is time to rise up from our place of comfort, shed our outer garment and take on a new identity in order to reveal the heart and plan fo the Father in Christ Jesus: to release the power of the kingdom that is resident in our hearts and witness the miracle of the spirit of the land shift from death to life! It is time to begin again.

Acts 1:4–11

I see so much irony in scripture. I am always drawn into the humanity of moments and often resonate with the reactions of people to the voice of God.

I love verses five and six in this passage. In verse five, Jesus, the Son of God, announces destiny to the disciples. In verse six, the disciples view their destiny through their history. Jesus prophesies a historical...

John 6:38   For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of Him who sent me

Remarkably enough, Jesus Himself was the model of the first "Christian". Sometimes that slips our thinking. Bearing the distinction of being a Christian actually means that we are "of Christ" or "Christ-like" by its very definition! Jesus was in full time ministry, no matter what His...

Genesis 1:27–28

27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

This is one of my favorite...
